The Clusters of the French Alps 2030 Winter Games

The 2030 Winter Games run from 1 to 17 February across four clusters in the French Alps and Lyon, plus a speed skating venue in the Netherlands. Lyon's newest arena opened in 2024 next to the Groupama Stadium, east of the city centre. In rink mode it seats around 11,000, and it takes the biggest share of the hockey schedule, including the medal games. The tram from central Lyon stops right outside.

A 1914 iron-and-glass market hall by architect Tony Garnier, now one of France's best-known concert venues. For the Winter Games it becomes the second hockey rink, in the Gerland district on the south side of central Lyon, a short metro ride from the Presqu'île hotels and restaurants.

Chassieu, Lyon

Lyon's largest exhibition centre, on the eastern edge of the city. Its halls are being fitted with temporary rinks, so figure skating, short track and curling all run under one roof, next to the Main Media Centre. In March it hosts the Para ice hockey and wheelchair curling events.

Les Trois Vallées, Savoie

The most exclusive resort in the Trois Vallées, the world's largest linked ski area. Courchevel is a regular stop on the Alpine World Cup and co-hosted the 2023 World Championships. The speed races run here, and the ski jumps at Le Praz, built for the 1992 Albertville Games, come back into service.

A high-altitude village at the head of the Tarentaise valley, with snow from late November and a World Cup weekend every December. The Face de Bellevarde, built for the 1992 men's downhill, is one of the steepest race slopes on the circuit. In 2030 it hosts the technical events: slalom and giant slalom.

La Plagne

The only sliding track in France, built for the 1992 Games and upgraded for 2030. All bobsleigh, luge and skeleton races take place on its 19 curves. Off the track, La Plagne is part of Paradiski, linked to Les Arcs by the Vanoise Express cable car.

A farming village in the Aravis mountains, home of Reblochon cheese and a fixture on the Biathlon World Cup since 2013. The stadium in the Vallée du Bouchet regularly draws crowds of 25,000 and more, with the French fans among the loudest anywhere on the circuit.

One of the largest ski areas in the Southern Alps, strung along the Guisane valley at the edge of the Écrins National Park. The aerials, moguls and big air events run here. Briançon, the highest town in France with a UNESCO-listed Vauban citadel, is ten minutes down the road.

France has no long-track oval, so speed skating goes to Thialf in the Netherlands, the sport's most famous building. It holds around 12,500 fans in orange, has staged dozens of World Championships and sits in Friesland, about 500 miles north of the Alps, an easy add-on via Amsterdam.

We had an absolutely phenomenal experience with World of Discoveries. What impressed us most was the precision and execution. Every single detail was accounted for — transportation, schedules, tickets, restaurant reservations, and daily logistics. Every driver knew exactly where to be and when, which removed all stress and allowed us to fully enjoy the experience. Even more impressive was how they handled changes. With winter travel and Olympic events, things inevitably shift due to weather and scheduling adjustments, but their team stayed completely on top of everything. They proactively made accommodations and adjustments without us ever needing to worry. This is white-glove, concierge-level service at its best. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a seamless, high-end travel experience around major global events.

We were initially nervous being that you are only on line and we are old. Our experience was great. Sophia was very patient in answering our questions and our concerns. The hotels could not have been better- safe, clean, great staff and very centrally located. Pick ups were exactly on time and Mike arranged an early pick up for women 's big air snow boarding so we got front row. Everything went smoothly the whole trip. Oh and the seats for the 2 speed skating events were great. Including transportation to and from those would have been a nice addition but not critical. We will look at using you again.
